It's been nearly seven years since young Jimmy Rhodes accidentally ended up traveling the world, leaving his younger brother Monty as the sole custodian of Allingham Hall. But more than half a decade living alone in a massive home full of strange old books does things to a chap. And when James returns home, his brother has changed considerably: the once cheerful younger Rhodes is now an eccentric socialite with a taste for the occult.
But James hasn't stagnated, either. Years abroad has built up his physical strength, but given him a newfound fear for the tall tales and legends he collected on his journeys. And with his arrival, something seems to be waking up in the sleepy town of Allingham-upon-Wye.
